Mr. Borges escaped from Cuba in 1966. He attended FAU and earned his
bachelors degree in Psychology from the College of Science in 1973. Prior to
founding Biomedical International Corporation in 1982, Juan served as Sales
Manager and President of Baxter Travenol Laboratories, Venezuela and as General Manager
of Baxter Travenol Export Corporation.
His company has received numerous recognitions including the Top 100
Hispanic Companies in Dade County, Hispanic Business Magazine’s Top 500 Largest
Hispanic Owned Corporations in the Nation, Dade Partners – a program of the
Dade County Public Schools, and Hispanic Business Magazine’s Top 100 fastest

B. Michael Budd

Mr. Budd is a Senior Vice President and Relationship Manager with Wachovia Wealth Management
in Boca Raton. He has over 25 years of private banking and commercial lending experience in South Florida.
Michael received his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Notre
Dame and is a Certified Financial Planner. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Boca Raton
Museum of Art. Michael is also involved with the Boy Scouts of America and is the Scoutmaster of Troop 323.
Stephen J. Clarke, Ph.D.

Dr. Clarke was born and educated in England, receiving an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from King’s
College, University of London. Stephen has held academic positions at both Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut and the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. His involvement in the sugar industry began in 1975 with the Jamaican
Sugar Industry Research Institute.
From Jamaica, Stephen accepted a research professorship in the Audubon
Sugar Institute at Louisiana State University. In 1995, he left ASI to begin
his current position with the Florida Crystals Corporation. Stephen has
published a number of papers, authored a number of book chapters, and currently contributes a
monthly column in the Sugar Journal.
Raafat E. F. Fahim, Ph.D.

Dr. Fahim was educated in Cairo, receiving his B.Sc., Biochemistry and
M.Sc., Microbiology at Ein-Shams University. He received his doctorate in
Biochemistry and was a Post-Doctoral Fellow, Molecular Biology at the University of Toronto.
At Nabi Biopharmaceuticals Dr. Fahim is an officer of the company and
member of the Executive Management Committee with responsibility for strategic
planning, R & D and operations. Prior to joining Nabi in 2003, Dr. Fahim
was president of RF Consulting, providing consulting services for the
pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
Dr. Fahim has 20 years experience in the Biopharmaceutical, Biotechnology
and Biologicals industry and has authored several refereed publications.
Sharon L. Foley
Ms. Foley has held various commercial and private banking positions
over the past 20 years in South Florida, including corporate finance, cash
management, foreign exchange trading, lending, trust and investment advisory. Sharon has served on the Board of the Boca Pops and on the Board of Directors for Citicorp
Trust. She is currently on the Boards of the Boca Ballet and the Irish Peace
Institute Foundation. Sharon earned her BA and MA in Economics from George Washington University and her MBA in Finance and International Finance from the University of Chicago.

Chris focuses his practice in the areas of estate planning; including special needs planning and the preparation and implementation of multigenerational family and business succession plans. He handles administration of complex probate estates and trusts across Florida. He also handles taxation.

Erik Edward Joh, Esq.
Mr. Joh is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Union University’s Albany Law School. He moved to Florida in 1980 to open a branch office of his Binghamton, New York law firm, Hinman, Howard & Kattell. He remains “of Counsel”
with that firm and practices in his own firm, Erik Edward Joh, P.A., in Boynton Beach. Mr. Joh is a member of the American Bar Association, New York and Florida bars and is active in many civic and commercial organizations in New York State and in Palm Beach County.
Over the course of a 30-year leadership volunteer relationship with the
American Red Cross, Mr. Joh has held a variety of positions both at the Chapter
level and nationally. Mr. Joh received the Harriman Award from the American
Red Cross in May, 2001, the highest award given by the American Red Cross at
any level for leadership and service and remains a member of the Council for
the American Red Cross Museum and an ex-officio member of the American Red Cross
National Nursing Committee.
Harold Kaplan
Mr. Kaplan is the former Assistant to the President of Gordon Homes
Corp., where he was employed from 1996 until his retirement in 2005.
Previously, he was the Assistant to the President and CEO of Ritter Food
Corporation from 1990 until 1994. From 1952 until 1981, Mr. Kaplan was part
owner of the Jersey Paper Company which was a wholesale distributor of
disposable paper products and airline supplies. The Jersey Paper company was
purchased by Bunzl Corporation in 1981 and Mr. Kaplan became the Executive Vice
President of International Sales. From 1990 until 1995, Harold was a Board
Member of the Orthopedic Surgery Institute of the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine. He is now a permanent resident of Boca Raton, Florida.
Douglas Martin, M.D.

Dr. Martin is a neurosurgeon with practices in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach. He leads two distinct medical clinics, Micro Surgery Inc. and Anti-Aging
Clinics of Florida, Inc. Doug completed medical school at the University of Alabama, completing an internship at the University of Florida and a residency at
the University of Alabama. He is licensed to practice in both Florida and Alabama.
In addition to his surgical practice, Doug has become an expert in
human growth hormone therapy. He is currently completing a book on the
subject. Doug is also a professionally trained gourmet chef and has been known
to make appearances as a guest chef in local restaurants.
Allen D. McGee

ever-changing healthcare industry, Allen McGee understands the special
challenges of taking care of business while providing the highest quality care
to patients. Before joining RCOA as CEO, Mr. McGee was Chief Executive Officer
and co-founder of Dialysis Centers of America, the largest dialysis treatment
organization in Chicago. Before co-founding DCA, he served as Senior Vice
President responsible for marketing, sales and acquisition development at Damon
Corporation, a clinical laboratory services company that was acquired by Corning in 1993.
His background also includes the positions of Senior Executive Vice President
of Specialty Laboratories in Los Angeles, Vice President of Marketing at
International Clinical Laboratories (acquired by SmithKline) and National
Marketing Director of American Biomedical Corporation (acquired by National
Health Laboratories).
Mr. McGee has a BA in economics from Hendrix College awarded in 1962. He also serves on the Board of Hendrix College.
W. S. Ozzie Osborne
Mr. Osborne recently retired as Vice President,
Alliances and Operations, IBM Pervasive Computing Division which creates
alliances and partnerships that enhance adoption and fuel the growth of
wireless and pervasive systems. Within IBM, Ozzie has held various positions including
General Manager of Voice Systems. His work earned him the recognition as one
of the top ten most influential leaders in the speech market. Ozzie has also
served as vice president for systems strategy in IBM’s PC division.
Ozzie received a bachelor of science in mathematics
from Florida Institute of Technology. He serves on the Board of Directors of
the Rinker School of Business at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Gary W. Perry, Ph.D.

Dr. Perry is a graduate of the Universities of London and Manchester in the UK.
Before joining FAU in 1989, he held faculty appointments at the University of Miami Miller
School of Medicine and the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York.
He has published numerous articles, served on the national review panels of the NIH and NSF,
and reviews for scientific journals.
At FAU Dr. Perry has served as Interim Dean for Graduate Studies and Senior Associate Dean
for Research and Graduate Studies. He is a tenured Professor of Neuroscience in the Center for
Complex Systems and Brain Sciences and the Department of Psychology. He is jointly appointed in the
Department of Biological Sciences and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Biomedical Science and
is a member of the Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. Dr. Perry was appointed as Dean
of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science in June 2006, serving as the chief executive and
administrative officer of the College and as liaison between the faculty and the Office of Academic Affairs.
Herbert Raiffe
Mr. Raiffe is the retired Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Gund
Manufacturing Company, where he began working in 1950. Founded in 1898, Gund
is famous for making keepsake soft toys. In 1969 Mr. Raiffe became President
of the company and continued Gund’s tradition of producing high quality plush
toys, ensuring that the company prospered under his leadership. At his
direction, the company began using its now trademarked under-stuffing
technique, the heart of the world’s most huggable plush toy. The GOTTA GETTA
GUND advertising campaign in the early 1980’s led to the company’s recognition
as a leading consumer brand.
Mr. Raiffe and his wife, Rita, are now retired and reside in Boca Raton.
Stanley Satz, Ph.D.

Dr. Satz is the founder, Chairman and Chief Scientist of Bionucleonics,
Inc., a Miami based biomedical company focused on the development of
radiopharmaceuticals, radioimmunotherapeutics and medical devices. His company
recently received FDA approval for an injectable radioactive drug to treat bone
cancer pain. Prior to founding Bionucleonics, Stanley was a defense contractor
and educator, serving as president of Defco, Inc., a defense and aerospace
company. He has also held positions at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, AT&T in New York and the International Bank for Reconstruction and
Development in Bogotá, Columbia.
Currently, Stanley serves as a board member of the United States
Industry Coalition, Florida International University’s Biomedical Industrial
Advisory Board, and the University of Miami/FIU Medical Program Steering
Committee. He is a graduate of the University of Miami, with post-graduate
work at FAU and the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He holds five U.S. patents and is fluent in Spanish, French and German.
Claire Thuning-Roberson, Ph.D.

Dr. Thuning-Roberson is the Vice President for Product Development
& Compliance at Sunol Molecular Corporation. Claire has thirty-three years
of experience in the scientific field, including 18 years in manufacturing and
administration. Claire’s research focused on immunology and pharmacology and
at one point managed a three-year National Cancer Institute study.
Claire has served as Director of the Goodwin Institute for Cancer
Research and as President, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of Goodwin
Biotechnology, Inc. In addition, she has developed graduate level university
curriculum in biotechnology and currently serves as Chairperson of BioFlorida
and as a scientific advisor for James Madison University. Claire holds a BA
from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, and a masters and Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern University.
James E. Tisdale

Jim received his MBA in Project Management from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. He is a current

Jim is the founding Chairman of a committee that created a college program with initial funding
from the FannieMae Foundation focused on increasing minority and underserved market participation in the
mortgage finance industry at Miami-Dade Community College. He was recently appointed to a newly formed
National Advisory Committee whose mission is to replicate this program on a National basis.
Thomas G. Vinci, Ed.D.
Dr. Vinci holds a BS in Education from Fordham University, an MA in Ed.
Adm. from Columbia University and an Ed.D. in Science Ed. from Columbia University. Now retired, his past academic career includes having been a Teacher
and Science Coordinator in New York City public schools, Instructor at the City
University of New York, Professor and Associate Dean at Fordham University, and visiting Distinguished Scholar at Worcester State College, Worcester, MA. He is the founder and owner of Pine Brook Day Camp in Tallman, NY.
Dr. Vinci received many professional and academic awards during his
career, some of which include: the Scanlon Award and the Bene Marenti Medal
from Fordham University, and the Outstanding Educator of the Year from the
Doctorate Association of New York. Currently, he is Vice President and
Treasurer of the Christ Child Society of Boca Raton, a Member of the
Educational Advisory Board of Boca Raton, Director of Palm Beach Atlantic
College School of Education, and President of the Fordham University Club of
South Florida.
John Wiesenfeld, Ph.D.
Dr. Wiesenfeld received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Case Institute of Technology in 1969,
his Masters from the University of Cambridge in 1970 and is a Professor Emeritus of Chemistry.
Over the course of his career he has be awarded many Fellowships and has held professional appointments
at Cornell University, Stanford University and the University of Washington. Dr. Wiesenfeld was Dean
of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science from 1995 to 2001.
Dr. Wiesenfeld has written extensively for a wide range of publications and has lectured frequently
at corporations and universities in the United States and Canada. He is currently retired and lives in Port
St. Lucie.
